Post 16

Post 16 Curriculum

Post 16 at VASE is to empower and support young people with special educational needs to live positive and meaningful lives. It works to support young people who operate more productively without the regular constraints of a school classroom environment. We put the learner into a real-life work situation or school based simulated work environment thus enabling them to make realistic assessments of their own abilities, preferences and career aspirations.

The objectives are to provide learning opportunities in a vocational environment that will:

-        Improve social and interactive skills

-        Progress young people autism/SEN into employment

-        Improve confidence and self esteem

-        Gain meaningful qualifications

-        Encourage and allow them to access the academic qualifications necessary for progression.

Pupils who chose to stay on at post 16 will have the opportunity to chose one of the vocational subjects below:

-        Vocational Subjects

-        Animal care level 1, Level 2

-        Horticulture level 1, Level 2

-        BETEC Introductory Sport level 1,

-        Mechanics level 1

 

Other qualifications gained whilst at VASE POST 16

Pupils will have the opportunity to improve their maths and English qualification as well as gain a certificated in employability and complete an AQA Project qualifications. Employability qualification will enable our students to gain knowledge of the world of work and to equip them with the skills they will need in order to meet the needs of employers.  AQA Project qualifications will give Pupils the freedom to study the topics that they’re interested in. The skills they develop will support successful progression to university and future careers.

Careers

Integrated within the vocational pathway’s pupils will have opportunity to access off-site work placement or school-based work experience depending on the pupils needs. The work and learn team will support pupils transitioning out of school through 1:1 student career action plan, helping pupils with applications and interviews as well supporting work placements.
